“And if you give yourself to the hungry, and satisfy the desire of the afflicted, then your light will rise in darkness, and your gloom will become like midday.” – (Is. 58:10)

Goal of Ministry

Our mission is to walk or support a walker in the Erie County CROP Walk to fight hunger locally and worldwide.

Facts about Erie County CROP Walk

- Total funds raised as of 2010 – over $1.8 million
- Monies distributed to Erie County – over $500,000
- Average number of yearly walkers – 1,000
- Achievements – Largest in Pennsylvania
- Status of Walkers, Coordinators and Board - All Volunteers

The walk begins at Presque Isle State Park’s Beach One Parking lot.  Walkers choose between a 1 mile walk or a 6 mile walk.  The 1 mile walk will be marked a goes from the beach 1 parking lot to the half mile mark at the Presque Isle Nature Center and back to the beach 1 parking lot.  The 6 mile walkers leave the parking lot and proceed along the Old Lake Road for 3 miles and then cross over at Stone Jetty to return to the Beach 1 parking lot.  There will be crossing guards and mile signs.

The CROP Walk is held the last Saturday in September.  Registration begins at 1:00 and the walk begins at 1:30.  Mile walkers leave a little later than the 6 mile walkers.

Who Volunteers and are there Safety Rules?

This is an intergenerational walk.  Walkers come from many different congregations and organizations.  Necessary wheels (wheelchairs, strollers) are welcome.  No recreational wheels please.  Bikes, roller blades, and skateboards negate the purpose and intent of the walk and present a hazard to many walkers who will be out that day.  We walk rain or shine.  Paramedics will be present as well as parking attendants and crossing guards.

How do I recruit support?

St. Paul’s coordinator will have an envelope for you with instructions.  A table will be set up in the narthex as a place to gain sponsors.  Sign up with St. Paul’s team on cropwalkerie.org, so friends and relatives will know that you are walking.  This is a great website for learning more about The CROP Walk.  The coordinator will set a date for turning in the envelope.
